Coaching Tools for Surf Camps and Trips

A guest may surf plenty of waves during a camp, but the useful ones are often the ones you discuss afterwards. Prosurfingtools helps coaches keep objectives, wave notes and session reviews together throughout the trip.

Start with the session and location

Create a training and add the surfers, coaches and location. When location data is available, the conditions panel shows wind, waves, swell and tide information. Use it alongside your own assessment of the spot when planning the session.

Give the session a clear focus

Add objectives such as bottom turns, positioning or wave selection. Tag the relevant waves as you record them, then select a surfer and objective in statistics to bring those examples into the debrief.

Choose technical work or practice heats

Use Technical training for wave notes and external video links without a scoreboard. Choose Competition training when the group wants to practise timed, scored heats. The coach records the session from a browser with an internet connection.

Review the waves with each guest

Open statistics for the training and select a guest, session or heat. Review their wave notes and video links, alongside scores where relevant. Export the filtered statistics to PDF, or publish a report link to share the selected information after the session.

An example week of coaching

  • Day 1 — agree a focus with the group and record a Technical session. Add notes to waves you want to discuss.
  • Day 2 — revisit that focus. Open the previous session’s feedback before reviewing the new waves.
  • Day 3 — choose the next objectives based on the group’s progress and the conditions.
  • Day 4 — run practice heats for surfers working on competition skills, or continue with technical sessions.
  • Day 5 — review the recorded sessions with each guest and agree what they can work on next.

Give guests feedback they can return to

A note linked to a specific wave is easier to revisit than a conversation remembered at the end of a trip. Keep the examples together so each guest leaves with a clear idea of what you worked on and what to practise next.

Frequently asked questions

Do guests need to install an app?

The web app runs in a browser. Guests need an account to open their own training area, but a published report can be viewed without signing in by anyone with its link. The smartwatch app is optional.

Can I work with surfers at different levels?

Yes. Use Technical sessions for individual wave feedback and separate Competition trainings for surfers practising scored heats. Choose the groups and session format to suit your coaching plan.

Does it work without an internet connection?

The current app needs an internet connection for its coaching tools and live updates. Offline scoring and later synchronization are not supported, so check connectivity when planning a remote camp or boat trip.

What do I need to set up before the session?

Add your surfers and create a training with its type, duration and participants. You can also add a location and objectives. Plan the camp schedule separately, then use the app to record and review its surf sessions.

Can several coaches share the camp’s trainings?

Yes. An organisation gives member coaches a shared training list and roster. Assign the judges taking part in each training so they can record scores and feedback.

Give your next camp a clear coaching focus
